If you have never visited San Diego and are planning a trip to the area, prepare to be amazed, prepare to be astounded, and prepare to be prepared, or you may spend your vacation time scrambling to locate the most basic of needs. Keep these tips in mind to ensure you and your family have the most enjoyable Southern California, San Diego vacation imaginable.
Don’t Bust Your Budget
While you may imagine that the cost of vacationing in this Southern California city will be elevated, you will be glad to know that the cost of living and vacationing there is not the most expensive in the state. For most vacations, it is a good idea to budget as follows. Excluding the cost of accommodations, bring along $100 per day per person for food, and $100 per day per person for costs of activities, events and souvenirs. While this may not provide the most extravagant vacation imaginable, it will cover everyone’s basic wants and needs for an enjoyable vacation.
Consider the Climate
You will want to bring clothing for a variety of climates. If you need to reduce packing room, just be sure to bring clothing that can be layered. Tank tops that will work great on the beach may leave you more than chilled on a cool California night. However, if you pack an additional cable knit or hoodie sweater, this can be tossed over that tank top to create warmer layers when the night grows cool. If you plan to visit higher elevations while in California, you may want to include the addition of flannel or thermal underclothing. While they can be taken off when the weather grows a bit too warm, there may be nothing that can replace them on an unexpectedly cool trip into some of California’s most famous mountains, or when the night falls at one of the local amusement parks. Riding coasters at night can be extremely exhilarating, but also, extremely chilly without proper clothing and footwear.
Don’t Over Schedule
While it may be tempting, especially if you are traveling with a large family or one with small children, scheduling every moment you spend in San Diego is likely to only bring you undue stress. Large venues and parks like SeaWorld may have even more to see than you may have prepared for and attempting to adhere to a schedule when encountering unexpected, but enjoyable activities is a recipe for headaches, and perhaps a lot of crying. Try to get into the feel of San Diego while you are there and you are more likely to enjoy a vacation of rest and relaxation.
Let’s face it, it shouldn’t be too hard to have a fabulous vacation in one of the most temperate and lovely cities in California. To help encourage a fantastic vacation, adhere to the only rule vacations are built upon, the need for fun.
